This year, my new year’s resolution was sparked by several conversations with my long time and very close friend, Mark. He had decided that 5 am workouts were the best way to go. We both reminded each other of all of the celebrities and inspirational people who developed habits of getting up at 4 and 5 in the morning to start their day. I wanted in! After several weeks of making it to the gym no later than 5:30 am for an hour of cardio, I can honestly say, I’m just about a part of that tribe. I’m loving the get up and go. I’m loving the way I feel afterwards. My sleep quality has always been pretty good, but I think I’m sleeping even better. So far so good!

You might have already gathered that getting up at 5 am is the hardest part. Especially in the middle of winter. Also, since I have no coffee or caffeine habit of any sort, I opted for a natural source of energy. This was easily accomplished with my smoothie/healthy station that I have in my kitchen vs the typical coffee station. Since I was already taking spirulina or wheatgrass shots every morning, I decided that rounding out a simple recipe for an overall punch of energy, vitality and to meet the same needs as the typical pre-work drink. People brag about the tingles, but they also complain about side effects such as jitters and headaches.

A little research confirmed the benefits of most pre-workouts is to provide motivation, stamina, endurance, energy and focus. Adding a serving of homemade sea moss gel and chia seeds seemed like a perfect combo to help meet some of the same benefits. Voila! Tia’s natural pre-work and overall vitality drink was born. Needless to say, I take this EVERY morning, even when I don’t work out. Jitter free, no crashing, etc. For me, the experience has been all good. At first, I’d come home from the gym and take a quick shower and get a nap before logging in for work at 7:30 am, but the past week after taking this cocktail every morning, I come home and get in a little more dancercise and/or cleaning before I start work. I’m clear, alert and full of energy before most people have gotten out of bed and I love.

Sea Moss – is a powerful electrolyte. Studies show it may help improve thyroid function, Mental clarity and focus, physical strength, bone health, digestion and nutrient absorption. Spirulina – is believed to boost immunity, has anti-inflammatory benefits, boots energy and may also provide antifungal benefits again bad gut bacteria such as candida making it a great supplement to help control and prevent yeast infections.

Chia Seeds – AKA “The Running Food” – it’s high in fiber, protein, omega 3;s, Magnesium, Calcium and other nutrients.

The combo is a powerhouse of goodness for the body, inside and out. I’m already seeing and feeling improvement in my overall feeling of wellbeing, vitality. This cocktail is a quick and easy way for me to help meet many of my nutritional needs, but most importantly feel SO WONDERFUL.

How to make the drink – Add 1 scoop (serving per brand) spirulina, 1.5 tbsp chia seeds and 2 tbsp sea moss gel. Mix well and drink right away.

I usually take it just before I go to the gym and ON AN EMPTY STOMACH to boost better nutrient absorption.
